SPARTANS ADD CHEER TO OTHERS
OVER THE HOLIDAYS
Saturday December 15, 2007
Coaches and players from the Boy’s Basketball team
arrived at Berclair Elementary School at 9:30 a.m.  They
unloaded boxes of food donated by Second Presbyterian
Church for the families of children who attend Berclair
Elementary School, many of whom live at or below the
poverty level.  The players enjoyed juice and donuts
provided by the teachers and administrators of Berclair
and then helped distribute the food to the families when
they arrived at the school.

Tuesday December 18, 2007
The Spartan Boy’s Basketball team and coaches toured
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital which was
founded by entertainer Danny Thomas on the premise
that “no child should die in the dawn of life”.  Since St.
Jude was established in 1962, the survival rate for
acute lymph plastic leukemia, the most common type of
childhood cancer, has increased from 4 percent in 1962
to 94 percent today.  St. Jude has treated children from
across the United States and from more than 70
countries. While on the tour Coach Patino met a family
from Venezuela.  All patients are treated at St. Jude
without regard to the family’s ability to pay.
